Who: Cannibal Corpse, Exhumed
Where: Club Quattro, Shibuya Tokyo

I've been a Cannibal Corpse fan since I was 18 years old! I can still remember the day
Eaten Back To Life came out! Of course, I never heard of them at that time, but one look
at the cover and I knew it was going to be something sick and brutal and it was!
Now 40, I finally got the chance to see them live for the very first time at Club Quattro
in Shibuya Tokyo. I had been waiting on this moment for what seems like forever and now I
can officially strike seeing them live from my bucket list!
Although my anticipation for their live show to begin was killing me, I was first treated
to the Gore Metal sounds of Exhumed. I've followed Exhumed off and on throughout the years
but I'm not that familiar with their back catalog. The only albums I have by them are Gore
Metal and All Guts, No Glory! However, that will soon change because I was so impressed
with their live set, I plan to get their other albums so that I can treat myself to all
the gore they've released. They played for a good 45 minutes and not a minute was wasted
as they bludgeoned their way through every song with such ferocity and aggression.
Although I don't know many of their songs, they seemed to have played a lot of tracks from
Anatomy Is Destiny. I could really tell that everyone in the band was amped up for this
gig as their musicianship was amazing and their stage presence menacing!
After a great opening set from Exhumed, it was time for Cannibal Corpse to hit the stage.
Like Exhumed, they wasted no time in claiming their Death Metal throne by pulverizing the
audience with 1 hour and a half of pure death metal. They played several songs from their
latest album, Torture, but they also played a lot from Evisceration Plague, as well as
Kill. I was also glad they played some classics from Eaten Back To Life, Tomb of the
Mutilated and Vile. Continuing with tracks from their back catalog, they slayed songs from
The Wretched Spawn (although they didn't play Frantic Disembowelment) and Gallery of
Suicide. All during the performance, Corpsegrinder was windmill head banging like no one
else can! He even once challenged the audience during a song and the battle wasn't even
close. George is the reigning king of the windmill head bang! Closing out the set, they
played Hammer Smashed Face, followed by Stripped, Raped, and Strangled a perfect
ending to one of the best gigs that I've ever been to!
