There is nothing better than experiencing metal live! From the pulsating blasts of extreme loudness, the emotional interactions of the bands, and the dedicated frenziness of the metal heads in the audience, going to a metal show is the ultimate experience for the adrenaline-rush addicts. That being said, live metal DVD's are a great way to immortalize the live metal experience. Decapitated's "Human's Dust" DVD is no exception. It captures the band at their finest, with the Sauron lineup.
Human Dust captures Decapitated's October 2002 performance at Studio Krzemionki in Krakow. Brilliantly shot, directed and produced, this is one of the best overall Death Metal DVD's out today. A lot of live metal DVD's are either horribly produced, or the sound quality is crap. Decapitated prove here why they are one of the top death metal bands around today. Their live sound is as tight as they are in the studio, and their stage presence easily ramps up the crowd and sends them into mosh pit madness. Starting the show off with Nihility, they set the pace at a ripping speed and do not let up until they've left the stage. One of the stand-out tracks (and one of my personal favorite songs by them) is the Spheres Of Madness performance. Although a slower paced song, it is no less brutal and succeeds in setting the audience on fire! The 8 song live set finishes with a crushing cover of Napalm Deaths' Suffer The Children - A great song to end a near-perfect set.
To continue the mayhem, the DVD comes with two additional live performances: Ozzfest in Katowice (May 2002), and Metalmania in Katowice (March 2004). The Ozzfest performance features three of their sickest songs - Spheres of Madness, Eternity Too Short, and Babylon's Pride. This performance is also professionally shot, but the audio is not quite up to par with the main performance. The guitars are drowned in the mix and the vocals are extremely muffled. Other than that, it's another sick performance. The Metalmania Festival performance is outstanding! Great video quality, great audio quality and another tight set from the band - this time featuring a second guitarist to enhance the live experience of their brutal tracks.
There are three interviews on this DVD as well. They are all in Polish with subtitles and they all have great details about their history, brutal sound, as well as their writing and recording methods.
It's unfortunate that an automobile accident in October of 2007 while on tour nearly put an end to this great band. Vitek (Drums) lost his life in this tragic event and vocalist Coven is still on a long road to recovery. Those who have managed to catch Decapitated live know for sure how technically brutal they are in concert. Those of us that have not, at least have the Human's Dust DVD to remind of how good they really were. I highly recommend this DVD to all fans of metal!!
