Third album for the Italian band Medusa released by Dracma Records. A past as supporting acts for names like Testament and Sum41 and a line-up which counts two bass players are the visiting card of this young and interesting band.
If the previous album was more punk-oriented, this one sweeps through rock, heavy, grunge and nu-metal too with a huge variety of rhythms and sounds. The lyrics are mostly angry and irreverent and, despite they’re all written in Italian, they work out great and preserve a good rhythm within the songs. It’s a real pity for all the international listeners who will not get lines such as “close your head in your microwave oven” in track no.1 “Microonde” or “You burned your brain at the parties” in song no. 2 “Sangue e Nutella”, literally “Blood And Chocolate Cream”. The vocalist performs each song without the need of special effects to cover his strong interpretation: from the anger of “Torino In Vetrina” to the funny falsetto of “Cingomma Alla Menta” he gives each track his personal touch.
As I said this album hosts a big variety of hints: killer guitar riffs on the heavy “Torino In Vetrina”, actually my favorite, powerful bass and funny chorus on “Babbo Natale”, the Pixies-oriented “Eva” and the psychedelic atmosphere of the electronic “Nitro”.
There are no weak elements among the instruments and the production can be simple and essential as if it was a live album as these guys have really nothing to hide: honesty is one of their main point of force.
If all these reasons are not enough to try this album, get a look at the back cover: male listeners especially!
