Moments of engulfing, suffocating sludge
COMMENTS:
Hailing from Philly, God Root plays what I can only classify as ambient sludge metal. 'Salt and Rot', the band's sophomore release, is comprised of 4 tracks that are a little difficult to try and describe. There are definitely moments of engulfing, suffocating sludge present throughout the record but the majority of the album is these weirdly soothing and droning guitar tones with heavy drums and bass and some slower tempos thrown in just to mess with you. What vocals are present have a tortured, angst-ridden quality to them that just screams sorrow. This is an album I have to be in a particular mood to listen to.
