We’ve got drinking and hell raising to do
Punk Rock busted upside the head with a lethal dose of Heavy Metal, what a splendid idea to combine two of the most aggressive genres in the history of Rock N Roll. Superchrist is definitely one more band to add to that ever growing, never-changing list of bands that keep it short yet snotty while at the same time never forgetting about the importance of guitar solos and memorable riffs.
“Back & Black” (an obvious nod to the classic ACDC) is the second full-length, self-financed, pro-printed CD-R that Superchrist has regurgitated to the unwilling world. With openers like “Stand Up and Shit”, black humorists everywhere should quickly realize they’re in for quite a raunchy treat. Chris Black lays down all the basic bass tracks while his best Lemmy impersonation emanates lyrics of disgust and the obscene as Whorepuncher keeps a steady drum beat. Who knew that punching whores could lead to solid drumming? Churning out some of the most rocking guitar leads since Fast Eddie Clark in his prime, Hank Bitchlover delivers the goods. Every solo is a winner and with the most Metal of all riffs on tracks like “Fuck You Twice”, “Make You Famous”, and “Frano Fucked Yoko Ono” it’s safe to say that Superchrist means business.
Although the Iron Maiden cover seems a bit out of place and might have not been the best Maiden track to give the Superchrist treatment, “Poison” on the other hand, couldn’t be any more perfectly dropped right in the middle of this release. With a more than obvious Motorhead influence running rampant within this raw, garage recording. Audiophiles rejoice, “Back in Black” gets a vinyl release this summer. For those that think having a CD-R in a sleeve just doesn’t cut it.
Coming to the hole-in-the-wall, sleaziest club near you--Superchrist have arrived and no, they didn’t wipe their feet before stumbling in. Grab a case of Pabts Blue Ribbon. We’ve got drinking and hell raising to do.
