Demos and independent releases get some slack since the bands are often spent broke supporting themselves and trying to improve. Major releases usually have big financial backing, so they may be judged by a heavier hand. All scores can be eventually adjusted up or down by comparison of subsequent releases by the same band. We attempt to keep biases out of reviews and be advocates of the consumer without the undo influence of any band, label, management, promoter, etc.

It's cinematic--moody, atmospheric and climactic
'The Beloved Bones' is a two-chapter play with the first being 'Hell'. This 11-track album from Brazil's Dark Avenger showcases the same conceptual feeling as the two-part 'Tales of Avalon' from a few years ago. It's recorded at Fascination Studios by guitarist Glauber Oliveira and mastered by Tony Lindgren. The combination of harmonized chorus pieces, fast double bass and larger symphonic elements creates an epic, orchestrated delivery. Fans should find plenty to like about Dark Avenger's fine attention to story-telling. It's cinematic--moody, atmospheric and climactic.
