I'm a huge Americana/Outlaw Country fan but I've never cared for DevilDriver. This marriage seemed promising as the idea of screwing up these songs seemed impossible. Most of these songs are classics due to the incredible writing, music and vocals. These tracks are built on lonesome gravel roads carrying the burdens of the world. The production and mechanical nature of the record erases all of that emotion. This is a sterile assembly line of factory parts and mechanisms. In many ways this embodies everything wrong with this type of metal. Slipknot, Pantera, Lamb of God, DevilDriver, Black Dahlia Murder...the list goes on and on. It's sad when standard volume feedback sells.
