Imagine Royal Hunt’s Paradox meets Malmsteen’s early Rising Force in a deep (high)class – metal atmosphere and you’ll have a first idea of what this album is all about…then add Jeff Scott Soto as special guest and back-vocalist and Marcel Jacob (TALISMAN) playing the producer’s role and you’ll get “Feeding The Fire”, EDGE OF FOREVER’s amazing debut.
Italy gave birth to four members out of five while Bob Harris (AXE, VAI, ZAPPA) gifts the band with his evergreen voice; the rest of the line-up consists of Alessandro Del Vecchio (keys), Matteo Carnio (guitars), Christian Grillo (bass) and Francesco Jovino (drums), well-known names thanks to a frenetic live activity in the whole country.
EDGE OF FOREVER swim upstream and decide not to follow all the Italian bands devoted to Power Metal: their album perfectly combines AOR and Melodic Rock from the 80’s with a strong neoclassical atmosphere. That was enough to get signed by MTM and release one of the most interesting works out in these days.
Jacob does a great job as far as the production is concerned, his choices leaves room for every member to highlight everybody’s excellent work. The rhythm section is solid and powerful and the guitars and keyboards create exemplary solos , while Harris’s voice perfectly fits the grand and solemn melodies featured by each track.
It is no mystery these guys are strongly influenced by outstanding names such as Rainbow, Malmsteen, Deep Purple (the list could go on and on), and “Feeding The Fire” is here to witness their love and devotion to the classics. Take a listen to the “Mother Of Darkness” keyboards intro or to “The Gates Of Hell” and you’ll be immediately brought back to the past. The album starts with the title-track “Feeding The Fire”, a fast AOR tune with a catchy chorus, available also as Video Bonus Track.
“Prisoner” hosts a duet between Jeff Scott Soto and Bob Harris and it’s one of the highest moments of the album together with the ballad “The Road We Walked On” enriched by Harris’s felt vocals.
Not a single thing is out of place here: these 5 talented musicians gave birth to a release that will easily conquer a huge number of listeners whit its combination of strong riffs and passionate vocals. “Feeding The Fire” will be followed up by a new album out in 2005, and I’m sure EDGE OF FOREVER will be able to surpass themselves!
