Demos and independent releases get some slack since the bands are often spent broke supporting themselves and trying to improve. Major releases usually have big financial backing, so they may be judged by a heavier hand. All scores can be eventually adjusted up or down by comparison of subsequent releases by the same band. We attempt to keep biases out of reviews and be advocates of the consumer without the undo influence of any band, label, management, promoter, etc.

The best way to determine how much you may like certain music is to listen to it yourself.

I've always like Machine Head. Sometimes they leave me shaking my head, just asking myself why is vocalist Rob Flynn so angry all the time. He has to be the most depressed individual in America.

Hellalive features Machine Head live in London, a live record that has plenty of Rob Flynn's depressed and dejected viewpoints. Which is one of the main reasons I like Machine Head. Hard as nails with plenty of attitude and hatred to go around, a hatred that is entwined with raw emotion and an unbelievabe amount of musical aggression.

This "live" record finds the Bay Area thrashers even more heavier than their studio output, with Hellalive ranking in my top 10 live albums of all time. Just listen to the crushing Machine Head classic "Ten Ton Hammer" or the band's signature sound on "Davidian". Rob Flynn's angry downtrodden ramblings make for a very enjoyable live experience, using as much foul profanity as humanly possible to fire this British crowd up to extraordinary audio levels. Hellalive is one helluva live album, with plenty of old and new tracks to spice the set up. I really enjoy the newer cuts like "Bulldozer" and "Crashing Around You", as to me they sound ten times heavier than the Supercharger album they originally appeared on. If you are a Machine Head fan, then this is a must have. If you like heavier bands like Stuck Mojo, Exodus, and even nu-metal acts like Disturbed and Slipknot, then I highly suggest picking this one up. I'm not really sure why Machine Head aren't as popular as they are. My guess is that they are just too heavy for the average metal listener.
