Geoff Tate-era Queensryche material is unquestionably the most popular music in the band's catalog. None of these records had more of an impact on heavy metal than 1988s, 'Operation: Mindcrime'--arguably the pre-eminent heavy metal concept album of all time.
So when Tate announced The Final Chapter tour--where he would perform 'Operation: Mindcrime' in its entirety for the last time--it's no surprise long-time fans of the record would jump at the chance to see the musical performance.
Tate and his energetic band of international musicians performed the record with remarkable ease, and without a doubt the highlight was "Suite Sister Mary". Tate was joined by Irishwoman, Clodagh McCarthy, who played the role of Mary, as they sang the memorable duet--complete with all the emotion and histrionics the song deserves--to remarkable fan reaction.
Following the Mindcrime set, Tate told the audience, "We're just getting started." The second hour included several songs fans still knew every word of as evidenced by the chorus echoing Tate for hits like "Jet City Woman", "Empire", and "Silent Lucidity". Tate then closed the set with "Take Hold of the Flame" from 1984s, 'The Warning'.
