Die hard U.D.O. fans will enjoy this album"Metallized - 20 Years Of Metal: Best Of U.D.O." covers material from the band's 20+ year history, featuring outtakes from great albums like "Animal House" (1987), "Faceless World" (1990), "Solid" (1997), "Holy" (1999) and "Man And Machine" (2002).
U.D.O., the German band led by former ACCEPT front man Udo Dirkschneider, is one of those constant presences in heavy metal. Most metal fans are familiar with Udo as the gravel-voiced singer of German power metal pioneers Accept, but he has maintained a very active career with his band U.D.O over the past 20 years. U.D.O. challenged their fans to vote 12 songs to be included in "Metallized", as a Best-Of album. This is an all around greatest collection of U.D.O. band highlights, the songs are all great, and this disc is definitely worth the purchase just for the "Balls To The Wall" acoustic version performed by UDO. There are 12 tracks and two unreleased songs "Shadow Maker", "Terror In Paradise" and with "Bullet And The Bomb", performed live in St. Petersburg (formerly known as Leningrad) wrap up "Metallized."
With the acoustic version of "Balls To The Wall" (ACCEPT classic), the question remains, "How can you disassemble a major Metal anthem such as this and turn it into a lullaby?" Why the band decided to even make an attempt at this is beyond all human comprehension. With "Best Of", Albums, it is usually created by a genius in suit and then persuades bands to do things not normally done. They throw in a few extra tracks and hope that it will appeal to the audience. Now, all the tracks are remastered and cleaned up.
If you are a die hard U.D.O. fan, you will enjoy this album. If you are looking for something new and exciting, this isn’t the album you are looking for. This album does have some great tracks but if you own the originals, there isn’t any real reason to shell out the cash to get what you already own.
