Look at what has become of COF. I absolutely loathe these little British mooks now. I'm also glad that Nick Barker left them to join Dimmu Borgir. COF are nothing more than some bullshit trend that will die out within a couple of years. Enough on what is now. On to the review.
I first heard about COF way back in 95' and this was, in my opinion, one of the most evil albums that I had ever heard. For Black Metal's sake it is very heavy. It has lots of palm muting, which is on of the black metal standards, but was never heard of then. Tempos change from varying speeds. Lots of complex changes within the songs. The lyrics are very poetic, but still dripping with evilness. Oh now you say, "But how can metal lyrics be intelligent?" Sometimes, just sometimes, they can be meaningful and full of emotion. And I think thats why this album speaks to me, such hatred for "god". Its apparent disregard for all things holy really spoke to me then and to some degrees, still now even more. Other than that I have nothing to say. This album is excellent in every way--a classic in my book.
