Note: Reviews are graded from 0-5, anything higher or not showing is from our old style. Scores, however, do not reveal the important features. The written review that accompanies the ratings is the best source of information regarding the music on our site. Reviewing is opinionated, not a qualitative science, so scores are personal to the reviewer and could reflect anything from being technically brilliant to gloriously cheesy fun.

Demos and independent releases get some slack since the bands are often spent broke supporting themselves and trying to improve. Major releases usually have big financial backing, so they may be judged by a heavier hand. All scores can be eventually adjusted up or down by comparison of subsequent releases by the same band. We attempt to keep biases out of reviews and be advocates of the consumer without the undo influence of any band, label, management, promoter, etc.

The best way to determine how much you may like certain music is to listen to it yourself.

Songs are enchanting and haunting, the music is catchy and individualistic
Obscure bands abound in this genre that we love and finding them isn't as hard as one might think. When this band came across my path I thought the name sounded cool and that I'd check them out. What they are is really, really hard to try and describe in just a few words but I'm going to try my best. Take one part Pink Floyd, one part jazz trio, one part Jack White and throw in a whole mix of stuff and that is what Not Blood Paint sound like. "Believing Is Believing" is their latest output and it is chock full of weird and very interesting songs. What stands out most is that each song is vibrant and alive with layers of sound and music going on. Each note and each word is an individual stroke on an artist's canvas the size of Great Wall of China. The songs are enchanting and haunting, the music is catchy and individualistic and there's just no other words that come to mind when trying to describe this album. Go check it out and see how it strikes you. This is definitely not for the casual listener or faint of heart.
