Note: Reviews are graded from 0-5, anything higher or not showing is from our old style. Scores, however, do not reveal the important features. The written review that accompanies the ratings is the best source of information regarding the music on our site. Reviewing is opinionated, not a qualitative science, so scores are personal to the reviewer and could reflect anything from being technically brilliant to gloriously cheesy fun.

Demos and independent releases get some slack since the bands are often spent broke supporting themselves and trying to improve. Major releases usually have big financial backing, so they may be judged by a heavier hand. All scores can be eventually adjusted up or down by comparison of subsequent releases by the same band. We attempt to keep biases out of reviews and be advocates of the consumer without the undo influence of any band, label, management, promoter, etc.

The best way to determine how much you may like certain music is to listen to it yourself.

  • "It's rock, sex, chilling, and haunting in its precision."

  • Get ready for the gravitational pull, watch your compass needle point North and follow the magnetic crowd-puller that is "4-Way Diablo", the latest release from Monster Magnet and music's answer to an MRI. Hailing from Red Bank, New Jersey, the group founded by Dave Wyndorf (vocals and guitar), along with a current a line-up of Ed Mundell (guitar), Bob Pantella (drums), and Jim Baglino (bass), has come full circle and produced what could easily become one of best releases of 2007-2008 and their seminal creation. With 12 new Wyndorf compositions and a transfixing cover of the Rolling Stones classic, "2000 Light Years From Home," 4-Way Diablo displays in full frontal, Technicolor glory the real meaning behind the phrase "great rock and roll." Wyndorf’s past demons have either been expunged or courted down a different path as there isn’t any filler or throw away tracks in the mix, just one solid, balls to the concrete wall, at times evocative track after another. Stand out tracks include "I’m Calling You", "Cyclone" and "Wall of Fire". 4-way Diablo is aptly named--it's rock, sex, chilling, and haunting in its precision. Prepare to be magnetized... x 4.
