If you've heard Scale the Summit before, chances are you'll already know whether or not you need this. Known for flashy, chops-intensive instrumental metal, this Texan quartet continues to hone its musically challenging, guitar-centric sound. Yes, there are intense, thickly distorted seven-string riffs aplenty, but compositions like 'Atlas Novus,' 'Sabrosa' and 'The Olive Tree' demonstrate the abilities of guitarists Chris Letchford and Travis Levrier to offer up pleasing melodies and rich sonic textures as well. It probably won't be enough to win over shred-haters, but open-minded listeners of all stripes are encouraged to check it out.
