Refreshing, experimental progressive metal that transcends musical boundaries!
Up until about a week ago, I'd never heard of the Salt Lake City quintet known as Visitors. I don't think I've ever listened to a new album, by a group I've never heard of, uninterrupted from start to finish. That all changed when I listened to 'Crest'.
This album is absolutely stunning from start to finish. Self labeled as an experimental, progressive rock band, Visitors is like a culmination of The Deftones, GlassJaw, The Safety Fire, and The Exotic Animal Petting Zoo and every song is amazingly fresh and different. Album opener, "Pollyanna" has a great mix of beauty and brutality without being over the top. My favorite track, "Apoplexia" is six minutes of awesomeness that I wish was about 20 minutes long...it's that good! Although every song is a dynamic masterpiece, "Styrofoam Needles", "Monochopsis", and "In Part, Entrained" are more standout tracks.
This is one of the most impressive releases that I've heard so far this year and it's already in my Top Metal albums of the year list. If you're a fan of any of the bands that I've mentioned in this review, then don't pass on checking out 'Crest' when it is released.
