Note: Reviews are graded from 0-5, anything higher or not showing is from our old style. Scores, however, do not reveal the important features. The written review that accompanies the ratings is the best source of information regarding the music on our site. Reviewing is opinionated, not a qualitative science, so scores are personal to the reviewer and could reflect anything from being technically brilliant to gloriously cheesy fun.

Demos and independent releases get some slack since the bands are often spent broke supporting themselves and trying to improve. Major releases usually have big financial backing, so they may be judged by a heavier hand. All scores can be eventually adjusted up or down by comparison of subsequent releases by the same band. We attempt to keep biases out of reviews and be advocates of the consumer without the undo influence of any band, label, management, promoter, etc.

The best way to determine how much you may like certain music is to listen to it yourself.

1/17/2019 - Review by: Greg Watson
A chaotic barrage of unfiltered death
Australia has given us some pretty solid metal acts like Destroyer 666 and Parkway Drive to name a few. Well my fellow bangers, add Eskhaton to that list. This band brings the thunder from down under with a side of brutality. From the opener Relic of Mictlantechtli to album closer Kimah Kalu Ultu Ulla, 'Omegalitheos' is an onslaught of frenetic death metal with plenty of twists and turns throughout. The songs are really kind of all over the place and this one will take several listens before being able to appreciate the brand of insanity that hurls at you throughout the album. The two biggest issues I had with the album were the fact that the music was so chaotic and that the production was a bit on the low side. Musically, there's so much stuff going on that it just really makes it hard to get into the songs. A little more structure would have been great to hear in the music. The production is really raw and very bass heavy which takes away from the overall sound of the album itself. A little more polished production could make this album really interesting. I see this album being very divisive in the dm world given the aforementioned factors but it will be very interesting to see where Eskhaton goes from here.
