Note: Reviews are graded from 0-5, anything higher or not showing is from our old style. Scores, however, do not reveal the important features. The written review that accompanies the ratings is the best source of information regarding the music on our site. Reviewing is opinionated, not a qualitative science, so scores are personal to the reviewer and could reflect anything from being technically brilliant to gloriously cheesy fun.

Demos and independent releases get some slack since the bands are often spent broke supporting themselves and trying to improve. Major releases usually have big financial backing, so they may be judged by a heavier hand. All scores can be eventually adjusted up or down by comparison of subsequent releases by the same band. We attempt to keep biases out of reviews and be advocates of the consumer without the undo influence of any band, label, management, promoter, etc.

The best way to determine how much you may like certain music is to listen to it yourself.

Zyklon is like a "who's who" in the world of extreme metal. The band is made up of ex-Emperor member Zamoth, Myrkskog member Destructhor, ex-Emperor/Enslaved member Trym, and Sechtdamon from Myrkskog. Most of this all-star lineup was in place for the band's impressive debut "World Ov Worms" as well as the follow-up "Aeon". The band now check in with the much anticipated new record "Disintegrate", recorded and produced by the band with the help of esteemed soundman Thorbjorn Akkerhaugen.

"Disintegrate" allows for a really good blend of Swedish death metal crossed with the Floridian styled death of the '90s, built on a foundation of thrash riffs. The problem for me is this has all been done before by better bands who at the time were very innovative and creative. Listening to cuts like the title track here just reminds me of Morbid Angel post-David Vincent era. Sure there are plenty of great solo licks and a jarring rumble of grooves and thrashings but the end result is simply another death metal band that has released yet another death metal record. If you enjoy this then you will probably like the current Polish death scene led by acts such as Vader and Decapitated. For my money, if you want evil and extreme go with Exmortem.
