Tears is a name used by a few bands in metal, but this one from Greece appears to be the only one still operating. It's worth noting that this group also has the largest discography of them all, but at three demos, that's not saying much. 'Falling Certainty' falls in the middle of the pack, and for a home-grown demo is admirably complete. Its layout is semi-professional, and with six tracks and a 21-minute playing time, Tears have done their best to deliver a full package.

Tears's music is similarly ambitious, but unfortunately, semi-professional music doesn't make half so good an impression as semi-professional packaging. The production is acceptable, if a little hollow, and the songwriting is original and dynamic, and fully orchestrated; Tears's performance is what comes across as just 'not quite there'. The lead vocals are tremulous and reedy, the soloing feels a little loose, and the transitions just don't stick quite like they should.

Following this demo, Tears released a follow-up, 'Empty Soul', which takes major steps to remedy most of the above mentioned problems. Its harmonies are fuller and more confident, and the vocals have shifted to a slightly lower, more forgiving register. Alas, on 'Falling Certainty' these elements had not yet come together. If their next demo makes a similarly notable improvement, however, Tears may soon become relevant.
