Note: Reviews are graded from 0-5, anything higher or not showing is from our old style. Scores, however, do not reveal the important features. The written review that accompanies the ratings is the best source of information regarding the music on our site. Reviewing is opinionated, not a qualitative science, so scores are personal to the reviewer and could reflect anything from being technically brilliant to gloriously cheesy fun.

Demos and independent releases get some slack since the bands are often spent broke supporting themselves and trying to improve. Major releases usually have big financial backing, so they may be judged by a heavier hand. All scores can be eventually adjusted up or down by comparison of subsequent releases by the same band. We attempt to keep biases out of reviews and be advocates of the consumer without the undo influence of any band, label, management, promoter, etc.

The best way to determine how much you may like certain music is to listen to it yourself.

Hollywood Hairspray says it all. This CD is a return to the '80 Hollywood and Glam Metal. Newer bands from around the globe come together to play tunes from glam rockers, mostly un-released matierial to make the perfect party album. Backseat Superstars, a personal favorite of mine, along with Dirty Rag, Radio Vipers, Chris Laney, Hollywood, Bastardz, The Deadthings, Sweet Cheater, Gunshy, Silver Dirt, and a host of others really let their hair down (or should I say teased it up?) and payed a very worthy homage to glam metal. If your a fan of the 80's, as I am, you'll love this for the musical content; but it needs to be said that this is a tribute to an era and a genre, not a particular band and most of the songs on here are unreleased. Some, not all of the vocals are a little cheesy and rough, but then thats what the 80's were about right? While not sounding very much like the previous and original Glam Kings like Poison, Cinderella, KISS, Crue, or Slaughter, the flavor of their influence is there; I guess one could say they were there in spirit. What really makes this work is that its a resurrection of a style and sound that will never go out of style.
