Note: Reviews are graded from 0-5, anything higher or not showing is from our old style. Scores, however, do not reveal the important features. The written review that accompanies the ratings is the best source of information regarding the music on our site. Reviewing is opinionated, not a qualitative science, so scores are personal to the reviewer and could reflect anything from being technically brilliant to gloriously cheesy fun.

Demos and independent releases get some slack since the bands are often spent broke supporting themselves and trying to improve. Major releases usually have big financial backing, so they may be judged by a heavier hand. All scores can be eventually adjusted up or down by comparison of subsequent releases by the same band. We attempt to keep biases out of reviews and be advocates of the consumer without the undo influence of any band, label, management, promoter, etc.

The best way to determine how much you may like certain music is to listen to it yourself.

  • A nice appetizer

  • In anticipation of the band’s as yet untitled next full-length, Delain gives the fans 'Lunar Prelude', an EP that contains 2 brand new tracks, "Suckerpunch" and "Turn the Lights Out" as well as a reworked version of “Don’t Let Go” featuring newest guitarist Merel Bechtold and several live tracks from the band’s tour supporting 2014's "The Human Contradiction". "Suckerpunch" is a super catchy track that is rife with all the elements that make Delain what they are. Vocalist Charlotte Wessels sounds strong and powerful as always and the music is laden with enough hooks to snare Jaws. "Turn the Lights Out" is a slightly softer track that still packs that signature catchiness that the band is known for. The reworked "Don’t Let Go" packs a bit more of a punch with Bechtold’s stellar fretwork. The live tracks give listeners a glimpse into the live experience of the band. A nice appetizer to whet the palate for the upcoming full length, “Lunar Prelude” offers a great listen to new sounds as well as some live classics.
