A classic Iced Earth sound, but it is Iced Earth with Gene AdamsDestruction of the Twin Cities, Conviction, Spiritual Warfare, and Trampling the Serpent are just a few tracks you hear from Temple of Blood. As one can tell from the song titles as well as the CD cover, the are a Christian power thrash 4 piece. The sound is from a quarter century ago and in my opinion, favors the classic Iced Earth sound.
Bible stories in the key of metal, what can be better? Throw in Speed Racer on guitars [otherwise known as Matt Barnes], add a pinch of drum fury and a dash of bass; blend it with vocals and the outcome is a group of guys "Seeking the Truth". Did we find it? Musically, if this is heaven, I can't wait to get there. Vocally, if the angels sound like that, I hope God stops the singing.
The Christian aspect is very awesome, showing the world that there is a 'good' side of metal. The instrumentation is nice and the throwback is stellar. I mentioned a classic Iced Earth sound, but it is Iced Earth with Gene Adams who was released after the demo and ST release, and with good reason. Anyone who has followed the group will admit, Gene's vocals were pitchy with high shrieks and was lackluster at best. If people like the high vocals of King Diamond they may like this release. As for me, great stories and talented musicians are not the entire release and the vocals make this otherwise tight-nit group virtually incomprehensibly awful. "Realm of Insufferable Burning (The Horrors of Hell)" describes the CD perfectly. Great art but not a sufficient release.
