Buffalo, New York's From This Day explode onto the metalcore scene with their scorching debut album "Proverbs Of Ashes". Fans of today's wall of sound extraordinaire should find plenty to like here within these ashes, with From This Day really cutting edge and sounding fresh among the hordes and hordes of "by the boards" bands. This is indeed a strong album filled with the most sinister and malevolent guitar riffs, all neatly wrapped up in extraordinary production values. The band was formed in 2004, playing shows with the likes of Black Dahlia Murder and Cannibal Corpse before cutting their first EP in 2005. After numerous shows and gaining a large fan following the band have released their debut album. Produced by Doug White (Psyopus, Kalibas, It Dies Today, Everytime I Die, Earth Crisis) at Watchmen Studios, "Proverbs Of Ashes" is one monumental offering, a slam bang whipping post of huge stomp riffs, twin guitar melody, and harsh low end vocals. These youngsters are extremely tight and precise in their presentation, really combining all of their elements into that much needed "wall of sound" vibe. My favorite aspect of the band is the fantastic melodic parts each song is built on, clearly evident on album highlight "Of Cold Breath". Drummer Allen Malkiewic deserves an honorable mention here, really displaying raw and unbridled talent behind the kit with his fills and monster blast beats.
Bottom Line - In a perfect world this will land in many top 5 lists within the metal/hardcore circles. For fans of Sworn Enemy, The Abscence, and The Classic Struggle.
