Doesn’t offer much in the way of fresh power metalDestynation are one of the last power acts to come from Sweden. Are they going to be able to bring something new to the table? Many greats have come out of that sub-genre. That is the question that deserves an answer, after all, this is hands down my favorite class of heavy metal.
Rising Up is the debut from Destynation, born from Swedish power metaers Eternia, Destynation has the potential to deliver a knock out blow, if their catchy riffs from their predecessor are any indication. Starts off on the right foot and gallops through to the finish line, yet loses steam along the way. Great solo work throughout, and the darker vocals mesh with a great range by Anders Haggvist are amazing. Unfortunately, even though every song starts with earth shattering intensity, the tracks lack originality and lose the original power. Tracks like “Rising Up”, “Threshold of Pain’ and “Book of Doom” treat your ears to the potential this band poses. Too little; too late, the release needs CPR, but I think they can be a powerhouse. I’ll be curious to hear if their sophomore release has a newer sound or just be more of the same.
Destynation is similar to Hammerfall, Dream Evil, Axenstar, Cryonic, Nocturnal Rites, or any other Swedish power metal band you wish to insert here and doesn’t offer much in the way of fresh power metal.
