The written review that accompanies the ratings is the best source of information regarding the music on our site. Reviewing is opinionated, not a qualitative science, so scores are personal to the reviewer and could reflect anything from being technically brilliant to gloriously cheesy fun.

Demos and independent releases get some slack since the bands are often spent broke supporting themselves and trying to improve. Major releases usually have big financial backing, so they may be judged by a heavier hand. All scores can be eventually adjusted up or down by comparison of subsequent releases by the same band. We attempt to keep biases out of reviews and be advocates of the consumer without the undo influence of any band, label, management, promoter, etc.

The best way to determine how much you may like certain music is to listen to it yourself.

Freshen up the metalcore staleness
UK metalcore band High Hopes deliver a high octane, high energy album with 'Sights & Sounds'. Combining 90's era punk, metalcore styled breakdowns, interesting melodies and solid vocals, this album puts a fresh spin and sound on the genre while still retaining some of its core elements. The vocals are solid throughout, oozing brutality and angst while still working in tandem with the music which really grabbed my attention for its departure from the norm. Sure, there are still the heavy breakdowns and chuggy riffs at times but the majority of the tracks have this very different, almost old-school rock feel to them that just captivated and amazed me. To hear these types of melodies and riffs paired with the growling vocals is something unique and very well done. I was thoroughly impressed with this it from start to finish with "The Callout", "Manipulator" and "Sights & Sounds" being my favorite track. If you are looking for something to freshen up the metalcore staleness that has been around lately then this is the album for you.
