Death metal band Dechrist hails from Canada and is led by Maerk Asselin (vocals, guitars and bass) and joined by ex Kataklysm member Martin Maurais on drums. Their debut “Strong Men on Drugs” is an extremely fast tempo release that falls short in production levels and variety.
Whilst this band can show some future improvement, for the time being the album came off a repetitive drone with continual bang bang drum beats and quick fire guitar through the beginning, middle and end of every song on the album. The drumming appears tinny all the way through which tears a hole through your eardrum without being of good ‘sense assault’ value of their similars in bands like Hate Eternal.
The vocal is very poor, which doesn’t help the overall production value of the album and the deep growls which we see as an integral part of death metal are far and few between.
The album is a splodge from start to finish and doesn’t do the old adage of non-metal heads “it just sounds like noise” any favours.
Without flogging a dead horse too much, this album is crapola. Even the most sincere of open minded death metal fans wouldn’t put this fire out with a bambi bucket full of piss.
