Note: Reviews are graded from 0-5, anything higher or not showing is from our old style. Scores, however, do not reveal the important features. The written review that accompanies the ratings is the best source of information regarding the music on our site. Reviewing is opinionated, not a qualitative science, so scores are personal to the reviewer and could reflect anything from being technically brilliant to gloriously cheesy fun.

Demos and independent releases get some slack since the bands are often spent broke supporting themselves and trying to improve. Major releases usually have big financial backing, so they may be judged by a heavier hand. All scores can be eventually adjusted up or down by comparison of subsequent releases by the same band. We attempt to keep biases out of reviews and be advocates of the consumer without the undo influence of any band, label, management, promoter, etc.

The best way to determine how much you may like certain music is to listen to it yourself.

  • Stellar power metal release

  • Germany's Orden Ogan return with their new offering to the metal gods, To The End. This latest offering is sure to appease the gods lust and want for a metal masterpiece. To the End from front to back is a stellar power metal release and one that should find it's way into your rotation often.

From the opening riff of "The Frozen Few" I knew I was in for a great listen. Orden Ogan offers power metal at its best. Vocalists Seeb and Nils provide a tandem duo of power metal styled vocals executed to perfection. Seeb also handles guitar work and Nils tickles the ivories of the keyboards. Between the two you get a duo capable of soaring, melodic vocals that blend in well with the huge choral breakdowns that populate many tracks on the album.

Musically, the band is on point. With riffs to make you bang your head straight into brain damage, solos that would melt the face off the Sphinx and rhythmic breakdowns that will have you slamming your fist in the air to offer a metal beatdown to those fools from the Jersey Shore.

Standout tracks on the album are "To the End", "Land of the Dead" and "Take This Light", a perfect power metal ballad. The production on this album is crisp, clear and wonderfully done to allow each instrument, the vocals and choral arrangements all to be heard in one cohesive metal masterpiece. I'm not a huge fan of power metal but it has grown on me as I've tried to expand my metal library and this band and album is a must listen for any power metal fan out there.

This band knows how to deliver the goods and this album is just what I was looking for going into the end of 2012. I am looking forward to another great year of metal in 2013 and this is one hell of a way to close out this year. So metal heads, go out and pick up this album and headbang your way all the way into 2013.
