I'm drawn to extreme metal that is not of the norm. Music that pulls you in and takes you on a journey. The latest release from Akercocke is a perfect example of such music...combining elements from many styles, this band has created a masterpiece of flowing schizophrenia. What you get here is melodic passages woven together with death metal brutality in a way that doesn't sound forced or over the top. It's more and more things you hear while spinning this disc that will leave you spellbound. Middle-Eastern twinges, sudden super-shredding guitars, haunting chord structures, twisted thrash riffing, even keyboards thrown in for good measure. Brutal, symphonic, emotional and evil all in one breath. While this is one of the most diverse albums I've played in a while it's also one of the most focused. Think RUSH or old KINGS X gone death metal and you might get an idea of the brilliance behind this release. Pushing the boundaries is a refreshing change and "Words That Go Unspoken" has succeeded in every aspect.
