"We don't write songs about breaking up with girlfriends." That’s a quote from the bands guitarist Vin Alfirei and it's the truth, folks. This band does songs about abuse, death, and abortion but still isn't exactly doom metal. I found it actually quite refreshing to see a band that doesn’t dwell on emotional slop and just lets it rock like these guys do.
Beating of your Life talks about a young boys fear of an abusive father and just how he plans to deal with it. It’s only a sample of how angry and angsty this band is, you can feel the rage, believe me. No you won’t find any crying lyrics in this in-your-face band’s songs. I rather liked the Smashup, although admittedly it may take a couple of listens to grasp the feel of the music. Personal high spot of mine was Murder to the Mattress, which is about a woman’s choice to have an abortion. It’s as close to a ballad as you will find as they mournfully wish the dead child a safe trip to Heaven. But even that wasn’t as emotional as you might expect. I give this at least eight stars, because the lyrics are truthful and honest even in the music is a bit dull and a drone.
