Note: Reviews are graded from 0-5, anything higher or not showing is from our old style. Scores, however, do not reveal the important features. The written review that accompanies the ratings is the best source of information regarding the music on our site. Reviewing is opinionated, not a qualitative science, so scores are personal to the reviewer and could reflect anything from being technically brilliant to gloriously cheesy fun.

Demos and independent releases get some slack since the bands are often spent broke supporting themselves and trying to improve. Major releases usually have big financial backing, so they may be judged by a heavier hand. All scores can be eventually adjusted up or down by comparison of subsequent releases by the same band. We attempt to keep biases out of reviews and be advocates of the consumer without the undo influence of any band, label, management, promoter, etc.

The best way to determine how much you may like certain music is to listen to it yourself.

Jinjer pull out all the stops on their latest EP, setting them apart
If there was ever any doubt that Jinjer are an unstoppable force in the Metalcore scene, that can be erased with the release of their new EP, 'Micro'. Twenty minutes and five punishing tracks of some of their most progressive metal yet, Jinjer set off to prove they are not just another cliche. Album opener, "Ape", wastes no time in setting the tone for the whole album. Tatiana's clean and harsh vocals are amazing as usual but the music is a step up from previous efforts. Although every track is dynamic in its own way, standout tracks include "Teacher, Teacher!", and "Perennial". The album closer, "Micro" is a short, abstract piece that is probably a needless filler, but it doesn't hurt, especially coming after the four crushing songs that came before it. Jinjer are a band to be taken seriously and 'Micro' is proof of that. Any fan of Metalcore--or even progressive metal--needs to check this out!
