Avant garde black metal that is both complex but a bit ambitious
Massachusetts based In Human Form are quite an enigma in the metal world. Their sound is a mixture of prog, jazz and 90's era black metal that is melded together in a bizarre mix that works really well. The album's pattern of instrumental/full track/instrumental got really boring and the non-instrumental tracks all clock in over 10 minutes in length. I found myself losing interest about halfway through the album. There are lots of layers here and one listen isn't going to allow you to hear everything the band is doing but for me, one listen was all I could handle.
