Not to dismiss these Danes as imitators, but I hear uncanny similarities to Sahg's "Delusions of Grandeur." It's mainly in Jonny Jonsson's Ozzy-esque vocals, but also the cavernous production, Bohnham-esque drums and mid-heavy guitars. Black Book Lodge, however, make slightly different use of that sound: less "classic metal" and more exploratory. One could almost call this slow, heavy progressive rock, particularly on "Thalassa" and "The Call," where they quickly go from quiet and exotic to crushing. Dense, brooding and intriguing, this is a strong debut, deservedly seeing worldwide release after much local acclaim. Keep an eye on these guys!
