Popular Reviews
Doomy, socially conscious traditional metal
The debut full-length from this Brooklyn power trio immediately grabs your attention, eschewing anything fancy and getting straight down to business. And their business is a rather appealing one--slightly doom-tinged trad metal, with a unique combination of socially conscious lyrics and thoroughly old school riffing. Bassist/ vocalist Erica Stolz delivers the band's often provocative but rarely preachy message in a fierce, cutting wail while guitarist Jeremy Sosville and drummer Nathan Honor add a healthy dose of spontaneity too often absent in newer metal bands. Like most traditional bands these days, Sanhedrin aren't likely to revolutionize the metal genre. What they do is zero in on elements of metal gone by that they do well and use them as a springboard for their fairly incisive observations on problems humanity has created for itself (which get explored particularly well on the longer, more epic tracks like "Collateral Damage" and "No Religion"). Off to a promising start, I'd say.
