Demos and independent releases get some slack since the bands are often spent broke supporting themselves and trying to improve. Major releases usually have big financial backing, so they may be judged by a heavier hand. All scores can be eventually adjusted up or down by comparison of subsequent releases by the same band. We attempt to keep biases out of reviews and be advocates of the consumer without the undo influence of any band, label, management, promoter, etc.

The best way to determine how much you may like certain music is to listen to it yourself.

Chainsnap are listed in their band sheet as a five piece thrash band from Wisconsin, but the songs I heard on the promo were more rudimentary Sabbath than anything from the American thrash metal scene circa '86-'88. The musical breaks at around 3 minutes into the first and second songs do however bring some nice reminders of the old school rhythm-powered neck-snappers. I would have liked to have heard a bit more speed in the chorus' personally.

The guitars are a bit low in the mix, but there are enough chunky riffs to scare the local cows and churn their milk straight to cheese. Vocals are mixed between smooth verses and Pantera growling. I know a band in Tennessee and Georgia and one in all 50 states that sound like this. Not that that's a dig, mind you. Chainsnap are operating in the mines of metal where the ore is coarse, abundant and needs grinded by bands from all across the land. Toil, sweat and practice will get them to the next level.
