Like many Limb bands, Eternal Reign, is a fairly young power metal band dwelling in relative obscurity. "Forbidden Path" marks the band's second release, but this is the first I've ever heard of them. If the debut is comparable than it seems I've been missing out.
With a sound that's melodic yet retaining a fair deal of heaviness, the music here reminds me of a sort of cross between Symphorce and Mob Rules. Like Mob Rules this album has a certain flowing, smooth quality, but it has a bit more heaviness and is more direct. Vocally is where I'm most reminded of Symphorce as the vocalist shifts from a slightly gruff delivery to very soaring and clean ala Andy Franck. Occasionally the singer will also ascend into a falsetto briefly which reminds of Timo Kotipelto.
Overall, this is just a well balanced and catchy power metal band that would probably appeal to fans of bands such as Mob Rules, Symphorce, and Tad Morose. A pleasent suprise from an unknown.
