Note: Reviews are graded from 0-5, anything higher or not showing is from our old style. Scores, however, do not reveal the important features. The written review that accompanies the ratings is the best source of information regarding the music on our site. Reviewing is opinionated, not a qualitative science, so scores are personal to the reviewer and could reflect anything from being technically brilliant to gloriously cheesy fun.

Demos and independent releases get some slack since the bands are often spent broke supporting themselves and trying to improve. Major releases usually have big financial backing, so they may be judged by a heavier hand. All scores can be eventually adjusted up or down by comparison of subsequent releases by the same band. We attempt to keep biases out of reviews and be advocates of the consumer without the undo influence of any band, label, management, promoter, etc.

The best way to determine how much you may like certain music is to listen to it yourself.

2/16/2017 - Review by: Eric Compton
Fun rock and roll solo effort from the voice of Ratt
No matter what the current state of affairs the Ratt camp is in...and believe me that is a mess I'm not even bothering to sort through here...Pearcy still remains really active. Since 2000 he's had six studio albums including this new one, 'Smash', a book and live tours. It makes sense that eventually Pearcy finds his way to Italy's Frontier Records label. The company has seemingly taken over hard rock with an emphasis on resurrecting a lot of 80's hard rock and AOR. Like last week's Jack Russell's Great White album, Pearcy weighs in with another quality effort that should please fans looking for that classic Ratt sound. With cuts like "Jamie" and "I Can't Take It" (the latter mixed by longtime Ratt man Beau Hill) that Ratt signature sound is clearly evident. It's mid-tempo fluffy hard rock with Pearcy sounding as if he's really just having a ton of fun with it. The music has room to breathe and guitarist Erik Ferentinos co-wrote a lot of this stuff for that purpose. While the rock rocks, the ballad "Summers End" to close the show is a dramatic staple. Overall, this is an incredibly enjoyable rock and roll album that I can't stop playing.
