ABOMINANT are angry as fuck, and I don't think they want a hug! Musically speaking, ABOMINANT deliver the goods. This is one hell of a death metal ride. If well-balanced technical death is your thing, then "Triumph Of The Kill" may be your poison of choice. The rhythm section moves like a Texas tornado, and can be equally chaotic in their more progressive moments. Don't let the use of the word 'progressive' fool you though, this monster flows pretty well. Unlike some of their contemporaries in the progressive death metal scene (i.e. CRYPTOPSY, SCEPTIC, THEORY IN PRACTICE, etc.), ABOMINANT never gets boring. The guitar work is great. The riffing is sharper than any Ginsu knife and the soloing is equally devastating. Fans of early GORGUTS, DEATH, and PESTILENCE will feel right at home with this album.

The first song to really grab me by the balls is "Of Night And Flame". Perhaps it is the most brutal song on the disc. Songs like "Blood Forever Blood" and "Mask Of Sanity" remind me of why I have such an affinity for death metal. Both have a strong old school feel. The best song on the album is "Triumph Of The Kill". The guitars really shred on that one.

If this album is lacking in any department, it would be the vocals. They aren't horrible, but at the same time they are not what I am looking for in death metal vocals. More of an angry yell than a defined growl. Even so, this is an album that may get some consideration for my year end list. This is their seventh album and it is good enough to inspire me to want to check out their back catalog.
