Note: Reviews are graded from 0-5, anything higher or not showing is from our old style. Scores, however, do not reveal the important features. The written review that accompanies the ratings is the best source of information regarding the music on our site. Reviewing is opinionated, not a qualitative science, so scores are personal to the reviewer and could reflect anything from being technically brilliant to gloriously cheesy fun.

Demos and independent releases get some slack since the bands are often spent broke supporting themselves and trying to improve. Major releases usually have big financial backing, so they may be judged by a heavier hand. All scores can be eventually adjusted up or down by comparison of subsequent releases by the same band. We attempt to keep biases out of reviews and be advocates of the consumer without the undo influence of any band, label, management, promoter, etc.

The best way to determine how much you may like certain music is to listen to it yourself.

7/9/2018 - Review by: Greg Watson
Filthy, disgusting, visceral, unrelenting. Just how deathgrind should be.
Dark demons delight, I have just hit the jackpot on the grindcore slot machine! DeathgraVe has just finished eviscerating me and I figured I'd share some thoughts before my life blood finishes draining away. 'So Real It's Now' is one of those albums that completely blindsided me and left me crippled after taking such a hit. Opening track "Casket Bath" sets the tone for what is to come and it isn't puppy dogs and rainbows kids. Bone crushing, unyielding grind with a bit of crust punk thrown in is what you can expect from start to finish.

The music has plenty of pace and aggression but the band isn't afraid to slow it down from time to time either. The vocals are a mixture of liquid gurgles combined with some truly gut wrenching screams. The scream that starts out "This Is What You Get Pt. 1" is just mind boggling. Solid vocals throughout the album really help keep things rolling on this destructive ride. The production is really well done too and is handled by guitarist Greg Wilkinson, a name familiar to grindcore fans for sure. It is a pulverizing bruiser of an album and was a massively pleasant surprise for me to stumble across.

So, for those of you that like your metal extreme and heavy, you need to drop what you're doing and go pick up this album right now! Go on do it, I'll wait. Seriously, go pick it up already! Alright, good. This is a contender for album of the year for me and I seriously hope it gets the band some much deserved notice.
