Demos and independent releases get some slack since the bands are often spent broke supporting themselves and trying to improve. Major releases usually have big financial backing, so they may be judged by a heavier hand. All scores can be eventually adjusted up or down by comparison of subsequent releases by the same band. We attempt to keep biases out of reviews and be advocates of the consumer without the undo influence of any band, label, management, promoter, etc.

  • Shows a maturation



    • Swedish black metal band King of Asgard return with their third offering to date with "Karg". Featuring former members of Mithotyn and Thy Primordial, this newest album once again is inspired by Norse heritage. The record is produced by Andy LaRocque (King Diamond) who also produced the band’s first two albums. The album itself is a fairly solid work from beginning to end and definitely shows a maturation in the songwriting and musical aspects of the band. The songs feature post rock styled interludes, some choral and clean chanting and some very solid and well-timed guitar solos. Tracks "The Runes of Hel", "Omma" and "The Heritage Throne" were all standouts showcasing the band at their best. The lyrical content swirling with Norse legends and folklore was very intriguing. This could certainly be for fans of Bathory to Grand Magus.
