Antares plays a fairly competent hybrid of technical death metal, made a bit easier to swallow by incorporating Gothenburg melodic-death sensibilities and syrupy keyboards. Five or six years ago, an album like this would have had me spraying my shorts. However, this style has become so run-of-the-mill that this doesn't hold much interest for me. Not to say this is a bad album, and Antares have plenty going for themselves musically. I just think bands like Cenotaph, Scholomance, and Theory in Practice have this niche covered, and there really isn't any more room left for bands of this ilk...
