Demos and independent releases get some slack since the bands are often spent broke supporting themselves and trying to improve. Major releases usually have big financial backing, so they may be judged by a heavier hand. All scores can be eventually adjusted up or down by comparison of subsequent releases by the same band. We attempt to keep biases out of reviews and be advocates of the consumer without the undo influence of any band, label, management, promoter, etc.

    • Sweden's Tad Morose release their seventh record to date with "Revenant". This album comes after a ten year recording hiatus. During the gap the band acquired two new members with Kenneth Jonsson and Ronny Hemlin (Steel Attack). Jonsson replaces Markus Albertson on guitar and Hemlin replaces longtime vocalist Urban Breed. Another change is the switch from Century Media to Despotz Records. These changes add to the band's signature sound and also incorporate other elements. The recording at Hemlin's Claustrophobic Studio lends the band their best production to date. The group maintains the same stance they had in the early '00s of polished power metal with operatic vocals. Hemlin's style and experience with a number of European bands creates versatility with these songs. The arrangements flow with speedy numbers and epic tracks that often utilize layered vocals. The highlight is the opening trio of charging anthems in "Beneath A Veil Of Crying Souls", "Follow" and "Babylon". Overall "Revenant" continues this band's solid pursuit of excellence and should appeal to fans of Brainstorm and Mystic Prophecy.
