Now that my friends is an interesting and original album title. Forget "Forged In Fire" or "Breaking The Chains", just go right after it. "The Cuckoo Clocks Of Hell". Odd, inventive, and interesting. Very interesting. So that brings me to Resurrecturis, an incredible death machine that rolls with an intensity and velocity rarely seen into today's rather stale death market. While so many death acts incorporate the melody and hardcore into their surroundings, Resurrecturis goes back in time, really constructing the perfect Floridian death metal piece, with the rapid timing changes, the blast beats, and the deep vocal grumblings. Mix all of that with a Swedish thrash metal polish and you arrive just on time according to "The Cuckoo Clocks Of Hell".
This little ditty is one mammoth punch, with the first indication being the fantastic artwork from this indy band. This EP comes housed in a digipak with very vibrant and glossy artwork. With the top notch production allowed here, Italy's Resurrecturis are on par to match just about any death metal band on the planet head-on in the talent department. This record marks the band's second release, a follow-up to 1998's "Nocturnal" release. Since then the band has experienced a few lineup changes, a hiatus, and a tragic car wreck. Now the band are in their second year of supporting this release, and being the open minded metal journalist that you hired me for, I will take you through the highlights of this group's sophomore record.
From the starting gate "The Cuckoo Clocks Of Hell" scorches the airwaves, really delivering the perfect strong opener with "The Last Sun", a hard hitting endeavor that really showcases plenty of blast beats, groovy riffs, and the deep growls of singer Jerry di Tullio, who mixes in the likes of Chris Barnes and Tomas Lindberg to create the perfect extreme output. With cuts like "The Hate", "Sleeping Reason", and "Living Reification" the band strays into a much different path from the opener, these punctuated with a huge groove throughout, recalling everything from Megadeth to Annihilator in it's quest to become THE over-the-top thrash machine. "Inversion-Perversion" is a huge doom piece, combining Count Raven with the likes of Life Of Agony. Here Tullio's vocals change into some clean singing with the chorus parts dominated by hardcore shouts. My favorite cut here is the fast, rapid consistency of "Helmet Logic".
Bottom Line - Resurrecturis are completely dominating on this performance, easily establishing themselves as a rookie sensation to watch for.
