Black Crucifixion is a black metal band who's cult offering was over before it practically began. With one demo tape, a mini album, and an album worth
of unreleased material, Finland's Black Crucifixion disappeared from the metal underground. Fortunately, the spring of 2006 will reveal their previously unreleased material in the form of Faustian Dream. With this release, the band will have abandoned Black Metal for a more dark metal sound. Don't worry though, for those that have been waiting to get their hands on their classic demo recording, "The Fallen One of Flames", the wait is over. Thirteen years after the demo release, The Fallen has been resurrected by Paragon Records without compromise of the original sound. First of all, the quality is terrible, but true followers of Black Metal will appreciate it that much more. There are areas in this recording - especially around the 2:15 minute mark of Flowing Downwards that shows the age of the recordings in their original tape
format. However, that does not stand in the way of the "true black" sound of the three full length songs presented on this CD. Most of the music is mid-paced black metal in the veins of Hellhammer and early Celtic Frost with a prominent whisper-like vocal attack. The CD picks up the pace with Master Spirit - an extremely raw, fast attack that is the musical highlight of this set. Although Black Crucifixion has now taken a different approach to extreme metal with their cross over to the "Dark Metal" path, fans of cult Black Metal can thank them for releasing "The Fallen One Of Flames". This CD may not be amongst the elite of early cult Black Metal, but it should be a welcomed addition to your Black Metal CD collection!
