Demos and independent releases get some slack since the bands are often spent broke supporting themselves and trying to improve. Major releases usually have big financial backing, so they may be judged by a heavier hand. All scores can be eventually adjusted up or down by comparison of subsequent releases by the same band. We attempt to keep biases out of reviews and be advocates of the consumer without the undo influence of any band, label, management, promoter, etc.

France's Aosoth is back with album #4, one of Black Metal's most anticipated releases of 2013! An Arrow In Heart is the follow up to 2011's 'III' – one of the best BM albums of that year. Although An Arrow In Heart is not quite as good as III, it's still light years above most other BM acts around these days. There are plenty of epic song lengths, blast beats, and discordant riffs – much like Blut Aus Nord. Standout tracks include the title track and Ritual Marks of Pentinence. However, AAIH is a bit more polished and accessible than III, which may turn off some fans. In the end, AAIH is a very solid album, worthy of a listen or two.
