Band Six Feet Under Title Unborn Type LP/EP Company Metal Blade YOR 2013 Style Death Popular Reviews 
 Floridian death metal legends, Six Feet Under, return with "Unborn". This album is their heaviest and best in my opinion since "Maximum Violence". When I put the album in for the first listen, the opening riff of "Neuro Osmosis" nearly knocked me on my ass. Incredibly brutal and aggressive, it's clear the band wanted to be sure to let listeners know they better prepare themselves for an all out attack. The song material is what you would expect from the most distinguishable voice in death metal, Mr. Chris Barnes. There's zombies, mutilation, murder and "Psychosis". Musically, guitarists Steve Swanson and Ola Englund attempt to outriff and straight outdo the other with aggressiveness. In addition, there are also bits of melody sprinkled throughout. As always though, Barnes' vocals are the highlight. His raw, guttural vocals and screams are the thing of nightmares and what really pulls the album together. Tracks "Zombie Blood Curse", "Decapitate" and "The Sinister Craving" are my favorite tracks on the album and proof the band has returned to its top form. The production album is crisp and clean, which helps you wade through the bloodbath the album paints. This album is definitely a good sign that the band is back in the game and ready to decimate anyone and anything that gets in their way. Death metal fans worldwide should definitely pick this album up. But be warned, this album will tear you apart and leave you for dead. And you'll love every second of it. I've supported them since Haunted first came out and I love all of their albums. Well, except for their latest album, Unborn. Released less than a year after 2012's Undead, Unborn shows a new side and style that we are not use to. We still have the signature Chris Barnes vokills, but most of the death n' roll riffs have been replaced with a more melodic approach. Also, gone are the groove riffs that SFU are known form. This is not a bad album but it's also not your typical SFU album. For me, I'm still trying to give it a chance, but it will probably not get that many more listens from me.
