Note: Reviews are graded from 0-5, anything higher or not showing is from our old style. Scores, however, do not reveal the important features. The written review that accompanies the ratings is the best source of information regarding the music on our site. Reviewing is opinionated, not a qualitative science, so scores are personal to the reviewer and could reflect anything from being technically brilliant to gloriously cheesy fun.

Demos and independent releases get some slack since the bands are often spent broke supporting themselves and trying to improve. Major releases usually have big financial backing, so they may be judged by a heavier hand. All scores can be eventually adjusted up or down by comparison of subsequent releases by the same band. We attempt to keep biases out of reviews and be advocates of the consumer without the undo influence of any band, label, management, promoter, etc.

The best way to determine how much you may like certain music is to listen to it yourself.

Orange County's purveyors of buzz-fuzz is back with record number eleven in "We Must Obey", a record that sees the band crankin' it up while tuning it down. For this bombastic display of stone deafness the group recruit famed knob-turner Andrew Alekel, known for his work with mainstream acts such as Weezer, Queens Of The Stone Age, and Rancid. With those commercial hands touching the band's long-running success formula one had to question just how troubling this mix really would be. Let me say that the end result is something that works out perfectly seeing the band still retaining a mammoth amount of bottom heavy while latching on to accessible verses and chorus bits. The low-end is crushing while the highs are smooth and rhythmic. Any of the group's seasoned fans should find this smokin' red hot with riff after riff of stoner washed out doom retroactive to Tony, Ozzy, Geezer, and Bill clangin' and bangin' in the industrial section of town.

The Bottom Line - Catchy and a bit more punk wrapped while still sounding clean and bottom heavy.
