This Brooklyn quintet plays stoner/ doom somethingorother, but avoids some of the genre's shortcomings. There's a welcome lack of the slow, aimless bits that keep me from enjoying other acts that straddle the stoner/ doom axis. There's slow stuff (which sometimes sounds a bit southern), but also some relatively uptempo rockers to keep listeners from falling asleep. Hardcore is part of the band members' past, but there's not much evidence of it here. Saw these guys open for Pentagram last year, and found them solid, if not particularly distinctive. Worth checking out if you like stoner/ doom fare that doesn't sacrifice songs for sludge.
