On the abundance of great bands emerging, Martin Popoff once said, “That was the best riff I’ve heard in hours”. Yeah, that makes sense. Seemingly a great new band hits my playlist two to three times a day. How do we keep up as fans at this point? Case in point is Huntington Beach newcomer Albatross Overdrive and their debut self-title. This a combination of Corrosion of Conformity, Alabama Thunderpussy and Black Sabbath welded tight with a bluesy soulful emotion that borders on Motown courtesy of singer Art Campos. Its fast and furious, its electric grooves and solos, it is absolutely dominating with pure brilliance. Yet I’ve played it twice, deemed it incredible, and now it’s shelved for the next amazing album that arrived a half hour ago.
