Candlemass is a Swedish doom metal band established in Stockholm, Sweden in 1984 by bassist, songwriter and bandleader Leif Edling and drummer Matz Ekström.
Classic vibes on this EP but it lacks substance on half the tracks
Candlemass have been the godfather's Of doom metal for nearly 35 years and with 11 full-length albums and a handful of EP's under their belt, they remain an active force on the metal scene. However, they've not always been the most consistent band--as in quality releases and a rotating door of musicians and vocalists . Their latest EP, 'House Of Doom' is another mediocre outing. The best track on the album, "Flowers Of Deception" is absolutely killer and sounds like it could have been released on one of their late 80's albums. "Dolls On A Wall" is a short instrumental track that is pretty decent, but the power ballad, "Fortuneteller" is down right terrible. That all being said, I still give Candlemass a lot of credit for remaining active and for releasing some of my all-time favorite doom albums. This one is not one of them though. I'd skip this one and put all my hope in their next full-length.
