Breath of fresh air in the Tech Death/Grind style
Bookakee offer up some tech death/grindcore hybridization that really packs quite a wallop. The band sounds like Pig Destroyer, Decapitated and Nasum had a really messed up menage a trois. There is some serious punch to the first batch of songs before the first little intermission recording. There is a surprising element of melodic guitar interludes and thoughtful solos, not the pounding, grindfest you would expect. I was really impressed with the first half of the album but then it meandered into weird instrumentals before picking back up with the final two tracks. The most confusing thing is the band's comparison to GWAR. At no point listening to this did I see any similarity to GWAR at all. They don't sound anything alike but the band has a costumed feel that could channel GWAR. Either way, if you're looking for a decent extreme album, give this one a spin.
